My New Apothecary Lamp

I wasn't looking for an apothecary lamp when I found this one at Goodwill. I went looking for cheap frames.

But, I've seen several of them popping up on the internet and I love their clean classic look.

I walked by it several times, trying to decide whether or not I should buy it. It was marked at $20.00. Kind of expensive for a Goodwill find. But, I figured when would I ever have a chance to buy one again for 20 bucks? I knew there were a few places in my house that I could use it. I knew that with a little spray paint, I could make it lovely. I knew that if I didn't buy it, I would regret it.
So, I brought it home, cleaned it up and got it ready for a few coats of my favorite Rustoleum gold spray paint. (Actually, it sat in my garage with a bunch of other crap for about a month first before all this happened).

I put it in my living room next to my freshly distressed leather chair and ottoman.

You might remember how this spot looked before?
I took down the swing arm wall sconce to make way for the apothecary lamp. I also took the side table out and replaced it with this ceramic stool from my patio. It was a Target clearance find from a few years ago.
Here's a closer look at the lamp in all of its gold loveliness. The Rustoleum gold spray paint leaves the nicest finish of any spray paint I've used. Love it.
I also slapped a picture up on the wall (to cover the holes that were left from the wall sconce that I haven't filled yet). I'm planning on getting an Edison bulb for it since you can see the bulb at times.

Here's a little mock up that I made in Polyvore to show you the direction I'm headed in terms of accessorizing the area to finish it off.

I'm going to add a bold black and white geometric pillow because I'm obsessed with black and white these days, and to tie it in with the black in the rest of the room. I'm also planning on getting some botanical prints to add color and bring in a little touch of nature.

That should do it for this little corner's mini-makeover. I still need to get the pillow and the prints, but I'll definitely keep you posted when this little corner is finished.

Thanks for dropping by!

  3. I'm in LOVE with these lamps!! So perfectly paired with your updated chair and I just die over that gold! Such a great find and pretty little spot you're creating there, Sharon!

    1. Thanks Deme! I think so too, however, Jacob informed me that he liked the other lamp better. Too late though, it was donated to GW today. I'm kind of on a purging tear. Trying to get rid of all the crap in my house I don't use. Thanks for commenting. :)

  4. It looks great! PS: Come back! I miss your posts...:)
