A Pretty & Functional Bedroom Office

I've been on an organizing spree lately, as I'm sure a lot of you are this time of year.  There's something about the start of a new year that makes me want to go through everything, get rid of stuff we don't need or use and organize the rest of it.

It is a challenge having an office in my bedroom.  My goal has been to have it be pretty and functional, while not looking like an office. I also want it to flow with the rest of the room.

Last weekend, I went through years of old tax documents and past paperwork so I could get it pared down to just the last seven years.
It took me an entire Saturday and I'm still not quite through with getting everything organized.  I had my office on the brain when I found some beautiful gray and white frames at Target on clearance.
This one went on my desk.  I popped a picture of my kids into it.  The picture was taken on a trip to Sea World in San Antonio a few years ago.
I loved the chevron pattern and knew that the gray and white would be perfect for my room.  It's also neutral enough to work pretty much anywhere else in our house.  Fresh white tulips are always pretty and can take the edge off of purging past tax documents.  The cute little clock I found while going through some of my old stuff.  I've decided I'm going to be mixing silver and gold in my room so it works perfectly.
The other frame went on one of my nightstands that I wrote about here.
As you can see, I still need to take the "clearance" sticker off and find a picture for it.  For some reason, it drives my daughter nuts when I leave stickers on things?
The lamp is from HomeGoods and the statue was a gift from my sister Kathy.  My Dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed in Italy when I was little.  Kathy bought me the statue when we were moving back to the States, so it has a lot of sentimental value to me.

Once, I put the statue in the living room on the bookcases and my kids were absolutely mortified to have a statue of a naked woman out there.  I had no idea they would react so strongly to it.  I thought it was so funny that they found it so embarrassing.  Anyway, I felt like she belonged in my room so she didn't stay in the living room long (much to my kids relief).
I felt like the frames were a nice treat for having sacrificed a Saturday to sort through files (which resulted in piles of papers and a huge mess in my room).
As I mentioned in my goals for this year, I want to get my room finished.  I also want to get the office area more organized and have a project planned for more storage.  I feel like I'm off to a good start.  Of course, I'll be sharing all of these upcoming projects with you here so, thank you so very much for taking the time to drop by my little slice of the www. :)

What about you?  Have you tackled any big organizing projects lately?
